Varicose Veins
More than 30 million people experience the discomfort and swelling of varicose veins and traditionally patients had vein stripping surgery. Nowadays, a range of minimally invasive procedures such as Venefit are available to patients.
Cobalt Hospital offers both varicose vein surgery and minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins and thread veins. This modern, purpose built hospital specialises in day case surgery and is located within Cobalt Business Park on the outskirts of Newcastle.
Varicose vein surgery
Following NICE guidelines Cobalt offers the 'Venefit' procedure (targeted endovenous therapy) for the treatment of varicose veins and is typically delivered under local anaesthetic on a walk in walk out basis with minimal down time.
Mr Philip Davey, an experienced local vascular surgeon, has established an extremely popular and busy vascular practice and has found that 'Venefit' is popular with patients as they find it less painful and can resume normal activities quickly.
Dependent on the severity of varicose vein the surgical method involves a procedure to strip the non-functional vein from the affected area.
Sclerotherapy
A procedure in which a fine needle is used to inject a small amount of solution directly into the thread vein. The solution displaces the blood within the vein, making it blanch or turn white, and prevents blood from re-entering the vein.
Veinwave
Veinwave™ is a non-invasive treatment for the removal of 'fine' veins from the face, nose and legs.
Thermocoagulation, or Veinwave™ as it is commonly known, has immediate and effective results. A consultation is necessary before treatment to determine how many treatments are required.
